A youth is someone still in a state of youngness. Youth age is the age between childhood and complete adulthood. This is the period before anyone climbs to or reaches complete maturity. It’s an age with thrills. It’s an age of uncertainty for anyone who knows not how to prepare for the future he or she desires. It’s the best time to fight the major battles of life, the battles of decision/indecision or choices, the battle of desires. It is the time when the wise fight to secure a throne in the future when foundations are laid to construct lofty monuments that can inhabit the builder for a life time. It’s the best time to create lasting legacies.
1 Timothy 4:12 - let no man despise thy youth, but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in love, in spirit, in faith and in purity. Is there anything more wonderful than being young, energetic, strong, and experiencing the excitement of first discoveries? Even the bible makes us understand that we shouldn’t despise this stage of life. The youth represent strength. They are the pillars that sustain the future of any nation, town or community. The role of every youth is to simply exhibit his/her strength in meeting human needs in all facts of life, particularly in their chosen field of expertise. The youth are supposed to be vigorous, enthusiastic, energetic and bold. But how is this strength cultivated? What do they have vigor for? What are they enthusiastic about? What do they do with their energy? What are they bold to do? How does a youth suddenly wake up in the morning and face the day strong in the midst of so many daring circumstances? Does the family system support him? How about unreliable government structure? Do they help in building these young soldiers or encourage them to be weaklings? When I use to attend nursery school, my teachers used to tell us that we are the leaders of tomorrow, and the amazing thing about it is, the people that were ruling us then are still the ones who are ruling today. When is this tomorrow? The present life of Nigerian youths today is inexplicable. There are many graduates with no job, while some tend not to go to school at all.
